Early 60's MacGregor clear shell helmet. The helmet is painted from the inside with the red stripe also on the inside of the shell. The Bills logos are on the outside of the shell.
Not sure of the date but the padding is sewn into the helmet as done in the early 60s. Helmet has the original jawpads.
Helmet has an early 60's EGOP style mask mounted to it with original hardware and screws. There is significant cracking on both sides of the helmet where the mask mounts to it. This can certainly be expected with a bolt on mask - known for cracking helmets as well as the 100MH - also known for cracked helmets.
Put them together and this is what you have. A cracked helmet on both sides. Looks like one side was held together at one time with athletic tape in an attempt to "band aid" the helmet.
I cannot find any photos of anyone in the NFL using the early EGOP style facemasks. The helmet has the original slotted chinstrap buttons in the front hole of what is a two hole mount of a plastic facemask - either one bar or two bar style. Not sure if the facemask was used in conjunction with the EGOP mask as they normally were.
The bar mounting holes indicate that there would not be room for a Riddell type tubular facemask but a MacGregor/Adams/or Wilson with it's downward angle is not out of the question. No numbers inside the helmet. Also don't see a size. I know the first question we will get is What size is the helmet.
A lot of wear, original components. I can see it now - "I can't find any pictures of a player wearing that helmet/that mask/that clear shell/those logos/the combination of the stripe under the shell and logos on top/that crack/the tape marks/those chinstrap buttons/that white hit mark on the front of the helmet, " etc. United States, insured, signature required.
